Eric Schultz – From Calamity to Catastrophe: We’re Lucky to be Alive
Track 1
Saturday, 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM
October 21, 2023
000000
It seems the world is frequently coming to an end. We are all – or, perhaps, just most of us are – going to die! The plants/animals are going to take revenge and wipe out humanity! Our computers – controled by AI! – are going to take control, using our weapons against us! An asteroid/meteor is coming and will wipe out all life! A plague will ravage the planet, or a virus will reanimate the dead and endanger the living!
It might surprise you the number of times the world was coming to an end – or at least we were going to have a bad day! We have lived through difficult times, and perhaps gotten ourselves ginned up over some minor issues and false alarms.
Join me and take a stroll through history, from calamity to catastrophe.
(This topic is meant to be a bit different. Not exactly cyber security focused, but instead a break from all that. Let’s take some time to look back – with some humor, hopefully – at all the times the world was about to end!)
