Erich Kron – KEYNOTE – Old McHacker Had a Tool: AI, AI… Oh!

Track 1

While AI is not new, the popularity of ChatGPT has rocketed the topic into mainstream news stories around the globe. From its ability to aid students in homework, to its ability to translate languages or summarize white papers, uses for these very popular tools have increased significantly in a very short amount of time. There is no doubt that AI will fundamentally shape the world we live in, but will it be for the better?
While AI can help people in some very positive ways, like so many good things in life, it can also be used for evil and malicious acts. The same things that make it helpful for good also make it valuable for the bad actors. The days of poorly worded email phishes are numbered. Parsing immense amounts of data to create profiles on people is much easier, and let’s not forget the really seedy side of things, deepfakes. From creating misinformation to generating pornography, some forms of deepfakes really push the limits of legality, morality and ethics. To add to the mix, AI has a habit of hallucinating and just making things up, a dangerous thing if we choose to trust the information it provides.

In this presentation, we will discuss what the rapid adoption of AI means for the future of cybersecurity, personal security, information sharing and much more.
In this session, you will learn:
  • What is AI?
  • How is it being used, both for good and for evil?
  • How can we spot and defend against attacks generated by AI?
